19 May 2017
Yesterday morning the planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the application for 492 houses and a spine road, in Cell D of Newcastle Great Park, which will see further loss of green belt and the bisection of Ouseburn Meadows SLCI and an important wildlife corridor. No concern about the ecological impact of the proposals was raised by the committee and although the council ecologist recommended full protection, enhancement and management of Ouseburn Meadows SLCI, there was no mention of how this will be implemented. This reveals the true extent of what we are up against. We must fight to protect Havannah now. The Cell A application for 1,200 houses and two schools, just metres from Havannah and Three Hills Nature Reserve has now been uploaded to Newcastle City Council's website and is available for comment. We need as many objections registered against the application as possible. You can login or register to submit your objections here: https://publicaccessapplications.newcastle.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=OPOK2PBS0EQ00 For maximum impact you can also email the case officer Adam Nilsson via adam.nilsson@newcastle.gov.uk, quoting planning application 2017/0666/01/OUT. Please spread the word - we need to move fast.
