Midwives as a collective are so grateful for the public support you are giving us, so that we can provide quality time and clinical care to women and babies across the country. We DO all deserve better than what is currently the case.
I have again contacted the minister for health Greg Hunt and the shadow minister for health Catherine King. I am still awaiting a response. I plan to also contact my local federal representative and encourage other interested supporters to do the same.
Our WA union has indicated a willingness only to pursue a workplace by workplace approach to this National midwifery workload issue. Accepting that proposal is like saying I'm entitled to the life-raft and the rest of my people can fend for themselves, as far as I am concerned. I choose to tackle the underlying issue, and play the long game, for real change for the collective.
I will continue to put the message out far and wide to keep the momentum going, and will keep making connections with passionate people. I wont be discouraged or deterred by a sluggish government response. I know this needs to happen, and I know I have a crowd of like-minded people with me in this.
The picture for this update is my first cuddle with my Mum. Love you Mum, my biggest supporter xxx
