New Zealand must retaliate against Trump's trade war with 10% tariffs on all US imports!

"Throughout 1933, many unforgettable events made headline news across the world. The year saw many political changes that would pave the way for the Second World War, such as Adolf Hitler rising to power in Germany and beginning his rule as dictator for a minimum of four years. Gaining an incredibly influential position, the Nazi Party eliminated political opposition to govern a single-party state, and the year marked the start of their persecution of certain members of society opposed to fascism, including Jewish people and communists.” 

Currently, Trump is mirroring these actions by restricting the press targeting, journalists, judges, and law firms that do not comply, threatening funding for schools and universities, dismissing generals, deporting immigrants, preventing scientists from entering the country, pardoning the January 6 rioters, and flooding the zone with ridiculous executive orders just to overload courts and confuse people. All of this is done intentionally to gain control of the US population. He is creating fear, causing people to shut up and comply in the US out of fear of Trump coming after anybody that opposes him. That happened in Germany in 1933! Wake up, people. I was born in Germany, and we learned a thing or two about fascism in school. It was and still is a requirement in German schools to be taught to prevent another rise of a dictator like Adolf Hitler!

His attacks on the American Constitution and talk of a potential third term are alarming. Trump poses a serious threat to society worldwide and must be removed. Why only impose 10% tariffs on New Zealand? This is not reassuring, but rather alarming. In my experience, when the school bully suddenly becomes nice, it’s a sign that something is not right, so I would steer clear. That is what New Zealand needs to do. We must confront the bully, retaliate with 10% tariffs on all goods from the US into New Zealand. We need to respond assertively and put up firm boundaries to this school-yard bully. We want to be on the right side of history and set an example to the world by retaliating to these tariffs and not bending the knee to Trump.

The exploitation of Ukraine and betrayal of allies like Europe, Canada, and Mexico is inexcusable. Trumps comments about annexing Canada, Greenland, and Panama are deeply troubling to me as a European. These are imperial ambitions and I am outraged by the Orange Buffoon in the Oval Office and what he stands for (Fascism/Dictatorship). New Zealand should align with Europe rather than the USA, becoming a key exporter of fruit, vegetables, wine, timber, etc. to Europe. We can thrive without the US here in Aotearoa. Trump's behaviour is unpredictable now and the US can't be trusted as a friend.

The message I aim to convey in New Zealand is that Trump is a dictator in the making, seeking to transform the US into a dictatorship. It is crucial that we do not repeat the mistakes of 1933 and remain vigilant both in New Zealand and the US. These tariffs are nonsense! They are a declaration of war against the world and the actions of a malignant narcissist wallowing in his narcissistic rage against all countries (except Russia, Iran, and North Korea of course) and incapable of expressing empathy for anyone. Trump is economically illiterate and all this chaos is driven by impulse and the constant need for narcissistic supply to satisfy his cravings for more and more power, adoration, and attention.

What can possibly top that gratifying experience in the Rose Garden the other day, when he had his biggest narcissistic supply met so far, with every country waiting to see what the king would unleash on the world? What will be next to top that experience? Maybe seriously invading Canada or taking over Greenland or Panama? Trump is now unpredictable because he has a serious incurable mental illness and is behaving like a toddler, acting on impulse to satisfy his need for attention and adoration. These tariff "threats" are in fact an act of war!

We must all resist the Trump regime now and boycott US-made goods. We all can push back against the Trump administration in New Zealand. We have a choice to not support this madness in the US; let’s take it and avoid doing what the Germans did in 1933, not resisting fascism when there was still time. Currently, New Zealand is only facing 10% tariffs imposed by Trump. Why? Why is Trump all being nice to New Zealand? What is his motivation to be nice to New Zealand? Nicola Willis, please retaliate and impose a 10% tariff on all imports from the US. Winston, please do not bend the knee to Trump! You are not the type! You don't need to do that. 

We must not enable or appease the US MAGA administration so they can continue with this coup in the US. We must resist and protect our own democracy here in New Zealand. A coup is happening in the US right now, and it is time to stop denying or pretending that it is not happening. We must consider trading and aligning with Europe, not the current fascist-leaning US MAGA administration. Let's discuss and decide what is best for NZ. Firing Phil Goff is bending the knee to Trump. We are already in compliance and complicit in enabling the Trump regime if we do not retaliate with tariffs ourselves. We must start to resist the Trump regime now. Please sign this petition.
