The issue

Since the 7th of February 2022, hundreds of people have taken over the lawn in front of Parliament in Wellington. Many of these people represent marginal groups that have threatened the lives of Ministers of Parliament, journalists and have acted aggressively towards the community of Wellington, New Zealand.

Since the 7th of February, the protestors have further entrenched themselves in front of parliament. Their vehicles litter and block streets around the capital buildings, around the university, and are now bleeding out into residential areas.

The police have done nothing.

The NZ police commissioner is holding the stance that the protestors can be reasoned with; but that any action taken by police will lead to violence. Continued ignorance of the danger that these protestors pose will only increase the risk of violence as more protestors arrive, and further restrict access to New Zealand parliament buildings.

The New Zealand Police Commissioner needs to resign.
