This year New Zealand has burned the most imported coal ever in it's history for power Generation. In times of peak power demand if the New Zealand Government's goals for the use of Electric Vehicles are met these vehicles will be running purely on Dirty Polluting Coal. Not only does this increase New Zealand's contribution to Global Warming it raises the real danger of rolling power cuts as the national power grid is overloaded.

There is a device called a Ripple Control that can turn power off to specific appliances at times of peak load on the power grid.

This petition calls for the New Zealand Government to honor its commitment to the Climate Emergency and install Ripple Controls on all Electric Vehicle Chargers in New Zealand to ensure the illegitimate use of these vehicles does not endanger people reliant on reliable power supplies for their safety, and to ensure that people who buy Electric Vehicles (EVs) with the best intentions do not add to the danger of catastrophic climate change. (Naturally EV owners would expect to receive cheaper off peak power rates.)
