The issue

This petition urges all European, South American, New Zealand, and Australian nations to boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in the US, Mexico, and Canada this year.

As citizens of New Zealand, we strongly oppose President Donald Trump's actions with local and global repercussions. His alarming proposal to annex Greenland and the imposition of a burdensome 10% tariff on countries that don't align with the United States are just some examples of his overreach. These decisions reflect a broader agenda that we perceive as a threat to international collaboration, peace, and respect among nations.

The Trump administration is currently consolidating power in a manner reminiscent of Hitler’s actions in 1933. ICE is now being compared to the Gestapo in the United States. There is a concerning judicial takeover underway, along with media control. Trump has been weaponising law enforcement and purging the state, army, civil service, and judiciary, replacing them with party loyalists to ensure loyalty to the leader rather than the rule of law. Justice in the US is now being used as a tool of repression.

ICE is operating outside legal constraints, carrying out arrests, surveillance, and violence against political opponents. Trump’s rhetoric and scapegoating, such as his claim that “immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country" are not indicative of a healthy functioning democracy.

This is fascism, and we can resist it here in New Zealand right now by signing this petition. Trump and the US do not deserve to host the FIFA World Cup.

The current corrupt US administration has exhibited questionable behaviour, particularly in its discrimination against Muslim nations. Allowing the US to host a prestigious event like the World Cup could be seen as endorsing the 21st-century US MAGA fascism movement.

It is important for the global community to take a stand against this and hopefully encourage FIFA to relocate all US scheduled games to Canada and Mexico or consider boycotting the games altogether.

Instead, we propose moving the scheduled World Cup games from the US to Mexico and Canada or boycotting the event entirely if FIFA does not take action. Mexico and Canada have shown a commitment more closely aligned with values of inclusion and equality.

Boycotting the World Cup in the US would be a powerful and peaceful form of protest for New Zealand. It will send a clear message to FIFA and to the global community that the actions of a few cannot tarnish the spirit of international unity that sportsmanship embodies.

Signing this petition is not merely an act of dissent; it is a stand for global justice, the rule of law, and true sportsmanship. We urge you to support this petition and call on European, South American and Australasian nations to take definitive action. Together, we can push back against policies that undermine human rights and promote division.

Please add your signature to join this movement against discrimination and to take a stand for fairness in the global sports arena.
