New York City Mayor Eric Adams Must Unequivocally Recognize the Armenian Genocide

New York City Mayor Eric Adams Must Unequivocally Recognize the Armenian Genocide
The Issue
Last year, a 57-page federal indictment stated that days before the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day in 2022, an undisclosed senior official in the Turkish diplomatic establishment repeatedly sought assurances that New York Mayor Eric Adams would refrain from making any public statements regarding the Armenian Genocide. It says:
- On April 21, 2022, the Turkish official messaged the Adams staffer, noting that Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day was approaching, and repeatedly asked the Adams staffer for assurances that Adams would not make any statement about the Armenian Genocide…. The Adams staffer confirmed that Adams would not make a statement about the Armenian Genocide. Adams did not make such a statement.
As New Yorkers and those who believe in justice and human rights, we demand that Mayor Adams make a clear unequivocal statement on April 24, 2025, the day we traditionally commemorate the historical event, reaffirming the fact of the Armenian Genocide like so many mayors, including de Blasio, Bloomberg, Giuliani, and Koch (during whose term the Armenian Genocide memorial grove in Union Square was erected) have done before him.
Please sign this petition to tell the Mayor that there is no room for genocide denial or equivocating about genocide in New York City!
Here are numerous stories published about the federal indictment:
