LAST CHANCE to speak out on zoo issue

Zoocheck CanadaToronto, Canada
19 Feb 2018
Sault Ste Marie City Council is meeting tomorrow (February 20th) at 4.30 pm and during the meeting it will be deciding on changes to its Animal Care and Control By-law that would include prohibiting zoos in the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
Two councillors have put forward a motion to grandfather Spruce Haven Zoo from the by-law. If a grandfather clause is included, it would exempt the zoo from having to comply with the bylaw, so conditions for Ben the bear and the other animals could remain the way they are for however long those animals live. There are other options available for the animals, including being sent to legitimate sanctuaries.
If you are a resident of the City of Sault Ste Marie or the surrounding region, please send an email to the Mayor and Members of Council AS SOON AS POSSIBLE urging them NOT to include a grandfather clause in the bylaw. Send your email to the Mayor and Members of Council c/o City Clerk at cityclerk@cityssm.on.ca
If you are able, please also attend the Council meeting at Sault Ste Marie City Hall on Tuesday and urge City Council to pass the bylaw with no grandfather clause. Plan to arrive by 5.30 pm.
