The issue

Port Kennedy and Warnbro currently do not have a dedicated mountain bike track, which is a significant gap in our local recreational facilities. As a result, young riders and cycling enthusiasts are left without a safe, purpose-built environment to develop their skills, stay active, and enjoy the sport. Instead, they are often forced to ride on footpaths, roads, or informal bush tracks that are not designed for mountain biking. These areas can be unsafe, unsuitable, and potentially damaging to the natural environment.

Without a structured space to ride, young people miss out on the opportunity to build confidence, improve their fitness, and engage in a positive outdoor activity within their own community. A dedicated mountain bike track would provide a controlled environment with clearly defined trails, skill sections, and safety features appropriate for different age groups and ability levels. It would also help reduce conflicts with pedestrians and other park users by giving riders a designated area.

Investing in proper recreational infrastructure is an investment in our community’s wellbeing. Accessible outdoor facilities encourage active and healthy lifestyles, promote social connection, and give young people constructive ways to spend their time. Port Kennedy and Warnbro are growing communities, and our recreational spaces should grow with us. Our families, children, and future generations deserve better facilities that support healthy, active living close to home.
