On Monday(Aug. 4th, 2014), the BLM and New Mexico Livestock Board (NMLB) will begin a roundup in an attempt to eradicate wild horses in the Placitas area. BLM State Director Je...sse Juen, NMLB Executive Director Ray E. Baca, New Mexico Governor Susan Martinez and their staffs have been completely deaf to pleas by a number of local organizations and individuals, including New Mexico Senator Tom Udall. State and BLM officials have deliberately blocked local efforts to humanely manage the wild horse herds. Understanding how this could occur would doubtless shed light on why New Mexico is consistently ranked as one of the five most politically corrupt states in our nation. These people are completely in thrall to New Mexico's Land Grant organizations and cattle and mining interests. They see no interest to respect the overwhelming number of Placitas and area residents who value the presence of the horses and desire to keep them free, managed and safe from harm. It is another black eye for New Mexico, and a tragedy for these harmless animals.
