I have received no further news about the feasibility study and will chase them up again on the 2nd anniversary of Juma's death. It really is pathetic that they have not even started the study yet, and if this is an indication of how long the study itself will take, we could be here forever. I feel very pessimistic about whether we will ever get speed cameras, particularly when the police and the campaign groups seem so anxious to show that regular speed checks will suffice.
The Young Commoners' Association have done a fine job of changing the signs - something that has been shown to register far more than the same tired old signs all the time. I am particularly pleased to see the mention of foals on the Forest - something the campaign group were looking at more than five years ago when I was part of that group. Many of the New Forest authorities are not that keen on signs, some say that they don't work and that seems to be born out by people feeding the ponies right next to big yellow signs saying not to feed them. Fortunately there is a new regulation coming in which means that people can be fined £1,000 for feeding the animals.
