At last night's meeting of the New Forest District Council, Gilly Jones from the New Forest Roads Awareness Group gave a magnificent and faultless presentation asking for the Council's support for Average Speed Cameras to be installed on the B3078, Roger Penny Way. I followed up with my personal story about Juma and my own plea for their support. Neither of us could have done this, would have even been there, if it hadn't been for the support we received on the locals-only petition and this open one. Once again, I cannot thank you enough.
Gilly and I were taken aback by the overwhelming support of District Councillors during the short debate that followed and the voting process; we had their universal support with only one abstention.
The Leader of the Council also announced that Donna Jones, the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner, has agreed that there should be a feasibility study and that is another huge leap forward.
We still have a long way to go, and with the clocks changing at the end of the month, there will no doubt be more casualties on the B3078 and other Forest roads. Wouldn't it be nice if drivers, as if they were one, were to prove that these cameras were not needed by driving according to the speed limit and road conditions?
If anyone would like to see the debate - which starts at about 12 minutes in - here is the link: see comment below.
