Pay Nurses Crisis pay during the COVID 19 Pandemic
The Issue
Nurses are on the front lines of this pandemic, risking their health as well as the health of the families they go home to each day. Some Hospitals have limited PPE requiring nurses to wear the same mask, if even given a mask at all for their entire 12+ hour shift. While we care for all patients presumed to have COVID 19 while results are pending as well as patients tested positive, we are not receiving any additional compensation for our duties.
Many hospitals are offering very generous weekly salaries to entice travel nurses to come to Nevada to work, but are not offering anything for the floor staff that continue to show up everyday to fight this viral epidemic.
Costco, Albertsons and other grocery outlets as well as companies like Cox Communications have begun paying “crisis pay” or an increase hourly to their employees while nurses are asked to continue to work on the front lines in the hospitals with no additional compensation.
