Today Netflix began blocking paying customers who are using privacy-protecting services like virtual private networks (VPNs) from viewing their content in the UK, but it has already implemented these policies in other places such as Australia and the rest of Europe. The move comes in response to pressure from media giants who want to 'geoblock' customers mainly in smaller counties from viewing their favourite content. The Block on VPNs means innocent customers who pay their monthly subscription are likely to miss out, any VPN user will be blocked from viewing Netflixs content even though they have paid for it, users in less media driven countries will no longer be able to view content from the US or the UK.  The move will also undermine privacy and will likely push many users to illegal alternatives.  I am a long-term Netflix investor and fan, but I cannot respect Netflix decision to side with the media giants over its customers. Netflix believes that users will not quit their memberships over this issue and it will therefore not damage their active user base but we believe the same could be said of the media giants. They will not pull their shows off Netflix. Netflix has commented "It's either Netflix or privacy" help us get both.
