Nepal Needs Change: Demand Resignation of Corrupt Leaders and a Youth-Centered Future

The Issue

We, the people of Nepal, especially the youth, stand united in demanding justice, accountability, and the restoration of our democracy. Our nation is being ruled by corrupt, selfish leaders who have betrayed the trust of millions. The freedoms, rights, and opportunities that every Nepali deserves have been systematically destroyed.

Recent Events:

On September 8, 2025, nationwide protests erupted across Nepal, primarily led by young people, in response to the government's decision to block 26 major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter). The government cited the platforms' failure to register under new regulations as the reason for the ban. However, many protesters viewed this as an infringement on free speech and expression, highlighting deeper frustrations over government corruption, lack of economic progress, and unfulfilled promises by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's administration.

Tensions escalated significantly when demonstrators attempted to storm the parliament in Kathmandu, resulting in violent clashes with police. Authorities responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons, and the army was deployed. At least 19 people died and dozens were injured in the unrest. A curfew was subsequently imposed in the capital as the situation deteriorated. The protests reflect a growing generational divide and widespread discontent among Nepali youth regarding governance and digital freedoms.

Corruption Scandals:

The recent protests have also brought to light several corruption scandals involving high-ranking officials:

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has been charged with corruption concerning a 15-year-old land transaction involving Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal, a firm owned by Indian yoga guru Baba Ramdev. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) alleges Nepal facilitated the company in acquiring land beyond legal limits for herb production, processing, and a hospital, and later permitted the sale or swapping of some plots at higher prices, causing financial loss to the state. A charge sheet has been filed at the Special Court in Kathmandu, demanding a fine of 185.85 million Nepali rupees (approximately $1.35 million) and citing a potential sentence of up to 17 years if found guilty.
Home Minister has faced corruption charges, which have been described as the latest in a list of growing problems for Nepal's government. The charges could mean disorder during debates on the budget and signal that Nepal's descent into chaos and misgovernance continues.
Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Rajkumar Gupta, resigned following a bribery scandal. An audio recording surfaced allegedly capturing him accepting a bribe in exchange for influencing political appointments and land-related decisions.
These scandals highlight a pattern of corruption and misuse of power among Nepal's political elite, further fueling public outrage and demands for accountability.

Our Demands:

We demand:

Immediate resignation of corrupt leaders, including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Health Minister, Kathmandu CDO, and all officials responsible for mismanagement, injustice, and violence against citizens.
Strict legal action against those responsible for harming students, activists, and citizens. No one should be above the law.
Formation of a new governance system that is transparent, accountable, and inclusive of youth voices at every level of decision-making.
Prioritization of education, healthcare, and public welfare over political greed and corruption.
Restoration of democracy and fundamental rights, including freedom of speech, right to protest, and citizen participation as guaranteed by our constitution.
Why This Matters:

Nepal's future depends on the youth, who are capable, energetic, and committed to progress.
Corruption and negligence have led to economic stagnation, public distrust, and international criticism.
A transparent, accountable, and youth-inclusive system is the only rational path to sustainable development, stability, and justice.
We call on all Nepali citizens to stand united. Sign this petition to demand: justice, accountability, resignations, and a future where Nepal belongs to its people, not corrupt politicians.

Nepal cannot wait. The time for change is now.
