NEGLECTED inmate DIED from UNTREATED CANCER
The Issue
Jan of 2020 while incarcerated at Miami Correctional Facility in the State of Indiana I submitted an Health Care Form to get checked out bcuz my rectum was feeling weird. When I saw the doctor he did the finger in my butt thing and determined that I had hemmorhoids. I was prescribed the cream to treat it. Months go by and my condition only got worse. I submitted numerous HCF complaining and telling them what was going on, what I was experiencing, but they never did anything but kept telling me it was an hemorrhoid. They called me and drew blood, and said besides the hemorrhoid, I was healthy. I submitted a HCF specifically asking to be checked for colon cancer, never got it done. They ignored most of my request. They transferred me to Indiana State Farm(ISF) in Jan of 2021 and my condition got even worse within my first month there. I was basically confined to my bed, I lost alot weight, and I couldnt stand up or walk due to the tumor pushes up against my nerve and telling it I have to go to the bathroom. Everything I went to the bathroom the only thing to come out was mucus and blood. I was ordered to do a Colonoscomy in March of 2021 which the results revealed I had Stage3 colo/rectal cancer. I completed 6-8wks of chemo/radiation, and I went thru surgery in Sept of 2021. My surgeon, Dr. Robb said to me spcifically that around Jan of 2022 I would need another round of chemo/radiation treatment for any lingering cancer cells, or polyps. My surgery was at IU Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. When I recovered I was told I wouldnt be returning to ISF, that I got transferred to New Castle(NCC)where all my property was already waiting for me almost one week before I even recovered. I was there for 4months and I was transferred again, to Westville Correctional Center(WCC). My first month here I was denied my medical supplies. Im on a coloscomy bag for life and need to change it out every 3-5 days. I submitted multiple HCF about it but I was ignored. I also have a tube in my chest for chemo/radiation treatments and its supposed to be flushed out every 30days to make sure its accessible. My first two and a half months at WCC it was only flushed maybe once. Then in May they started finally getting on top of it after all the complaints submitted, and all the LT's, Sgts, Capts, the Warden, and the ass. dep Warden, Ive said something to all of them. Then I was sent to segregation for 90days, where I was really treated bad. I had the same colosc bag on for almost two weeks. I had to keep rinsing it out. They werent prescribing me any pain meds. My knee swelled up the size of a soft ball with fluid, and I still havent had that problem taken care of and its 5months later. Ive been complaining about these cyst in my head for about 5months too, and still havent been seen to get them removed. WCC is responsible for my condition getting worse. They dropped the ball on my backup chemo/rad treatments, and those were Dr. Jackson exact words to me, "somewhere along the way we dropped the ball".. WCC has basically killed me, and I just wanna go home and give whatever time I have left to my kids and my family.. The living conditions at WCC are horrible and hazardous, especially for someone in my condition. Windows broke out, rain and snow coming thru them. Unsanitary living. Its so dirty and the ceilings are caving in, the shower heads are covered with black mold, the water we're supposed to drink comes out brown. WCC isnt equipped enough to handle my health situation. They cant provide adequate enough care for me like I need. My cancer has now spread to both my lungs, chest, liver & stomach And I need help getting home. Im waiting on all my records so I can make those available too. Ive been gone 8yrs with only 4yrs left, I wasnt sentenced to death, just 16yrs at 75%. I wanna hug my kids again, they deserve that. I deserve that... Thank you!
