Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition - in just 2 and a bit weeks we have reached 730 signatures well over half way to our target of 1250 at which point we will be able to take the petition to a council committee and get our concerns raised. Since we started this there has been no football on 2 of the condemned pitches - that is at least 50 children not getting a game each week whilst their physical and mental health deteriorates and no doubts a few stressed parents. The Cricket square now looks to have been abandoned - this has been a huge investment over the years and without the winter prep will be unplayable come spring with the associated lack of revenue. The edges of the park are now looking very tired, lots of dead plants and debris and as the appearance dwindles respect for the space declines and there is already more litter being blown into these areas.
We had a park that was well looked after and a community that was proud, the council's actions and lack of an enduring plan to ensure its safe use for sport is having a huge impact - 730 residents sharing this view must count for something. We have tried to engage the councillors but their progress is slow at best and they can't get any traction from the council officers.
Then the irony - presume you have all had this booklet land on your mat from the council's healthy lifestyles team encouraging residents to be active. Apart from the fact there is not a mention of any activities in Wish park it comes at a time when our facilities are being removed due to the council's lack of organisation. Whatever happened to joined up local government!
Please keep sharing the petition we are now getting close to 1250 and we will be pressing to get our points made and an enduring solution in place.
