In the days prior to the veto, Stop Solitary CT heard reports from people incarcerated at Cheshire Correctional Institution and their families that the facility has been under an extended lockdown. Stop Solitary CT was informed that correctional staff at Cheshire have been calling out in protest of the PROTECT Act, leading to the multi-day––and apparently retaliatory––lockdown. Retaliation against incarcerated people for the passage of a bill intended the protect their human rights is unacceptable. In addition to calling for an override of Governor Lamont's veto, Stop Solitary CT will be protesting the cruel and unsafe conditions imposed on incarcerated people at Cheshire.
