When someone maintains their innocence and someone else steps forward to say they did the crime, that should be enough to afford the a person a new trial. Instead judges will say stories don’t add up or are not compelling enough. Even with recanted statements, hidden evidence by the police and state attorney, coerced statements by detectives, and other prosecutorial misconduct.
Write to Senator Gary Winfield and urge him and the Judiciary Committee to grant new trials to the many who were wrongfully convicted and overcharged due to this racist system. This pandemic has opened the eyes of many and is the ripe time to demand change and make progress in receiving justice for our incarcerated loved ones.
