End coal use in Nelson–Tasman!
The issue

Coal is the biggest contributor to climate change. Air pollution from burning coal is a leading cause of death globally, and coal mining kills rivers and wildlife.
Coal use makes a mockery of our image of “100% Pure New Zealand”.
We are concerned that coal is still being used in the Nelson/Tasman region.
Both the Government and Climate Change Commission have recommended a rapid end to coal.
The global heating effect of coal use lasts for thousands of years, but there are alternatives to coal that do not contribute to global heating. We can minimize the damage to the environment if we act now.
We call on Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council to end coal use or mining in Nelson–Tasman by 2025, and prohibit new resource consents for coal use or mining, effectively immediately.
