Problem

The NCAA has decided to cancel the 2020 Division 1 men's basketball tournament due to the global pandemic caused by the coronavirus. Because of that, it is unclear if a 2020 champion will be crowned - if at all. 

Solution

Give it to Kansas. Kansas finished the regular season of college basketball as the No. 1 team in the country. They were a combined 28-3 on the season with all three of their losses coming to ranked teams. Also, two of those losses came by a combined three points.

Here is where KU currently stands in all the major rankings:

• AP Poll - #1 (Unanimous)
• Coaches Poll - #1 (Unanimous)
• KenPom - #1
• CBS Sports - #1
• ESPN's BPI - #1
• Sagarin - #1
• RPI - #1
• KPI - #1
• Projected #1 overall seed
• NET - #2 (Gonzaga is No. 1 due to them being able to play and win their conference tournament earlier this week)

It's clear that KU was the best team heading into the NCAA Tournament. And while the tournament is how an NCAA Champion has been crowned in years past, this year offers an unprecedented set of circumstances.

KU should be recognized as the 2020 National Champions for their body of work during the 2019-20 season, just like how college football used to crown a champion prior to the BCS system. 

Several of our players came back to school for the chance to play for the national championship. They weren't able to do that. So on behalf of them and the hard work they've put in this season, please award the KU Men's Basketball team as the 2020 National Champions.
