We want Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik to direct state intervention for the protection of a herd of wild elephants that are caught in a terrible conflict situation just outside Bhubaneswar city, Odisha. The natural habitat of these elephants has been devastated. Now, led by their matriarch Laxmi, they live in a human-dominated landscape and face regular abuse.  
 
There has been horrific harassment of the herd which is heartbreaking and vile.These beautiful animals, so many little elephant calves included, are tormented for hours! And this is a routine that plays out regularly, week after week.

The harassment needs to stop. Both for the sake of the elephants, and the safety of the men who think that taunting them is a game.
