IGCSE and A Level Grade Review

IGCSE and A Level Grade Review

The Issue

The release of the May June 2020 Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level grades portrayed a misrepresentation of the students' performance across all subject areas.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic many candidates did not sit physical examinations to be graded by Cambridge, yet the grades awarded were not a true reflection of the student's performance. There was a lack of logical reasoning and evidence to support the allocation of these grades. Moreover, students who practiced re-sitting examinations were not given a fair chance to assess their improved progress.

The teachers for various subjects would have given assessments over the semesters and submitted grades based on their professional judgement of the students. On the contrary, Cambridge disregarded the use such grades as they appeared to be too 'lenient' and the allocation of grades by statistical modeling on previous pass rates was considered to be ideal. This is a complete mockery to the efforts and sacrifices by both teachers and students in these challenging circumstances during the pandemic.

As a result, teachers, parents and students share a common disappointment and concern for the grades awarded in the May June 2020 examination series. The purpose of this petition is for a review of the grades awarded with the possibilities of free appeals, grade adjustments, or any logical solution to this issue.
