There are now 500 signers and we are getting the message out! I received an email yesterday afternoon from MVMA CEO Karlene Belyea, concerned with the volume of emails her office is receiving. They consulted their attorney and on his advice, MVMA will not consider "contacting National Geographic or getting involved in any action that could cause the show to be cancelled" because "If the MVMA intervened and tried to persuade National Geographic to cancel his show, it would open itself up to a potential lawsuit for tortious interference with contractual relations, and possibly other claims." Karlene is also concerned that petitioners may think the MVMA supports this effort. I want to make it clear that MVMA in no way supports this petition. It was never my intent to imply that MVMA does or should in any way support this effort. Those of us who do, however- rock on! Talk about it at the office, tell your families, get your kids involved, post it as your status.
