Text to end Survey with (or take some from )
We consider the closure of the Gatineau Park Parkways to motor vehicles since 2020 and the schedule in 2021, 2022 has lead to an inequitable, a non inclusive access that does not respect the needs of the diverse majority of the park users and Canadian society.
The schedule discriminates against seniors, people with disabilities, families with children, hikers, walkers, tourists, bird watchers, average cyclists, mountain bikers and anyone who wants to use any of the trails, picnic areas, lookouts and start their walk form any point along the most scenic route in Gatineau Park and the probably the whole National Capital Region, without direct access to the 13 parking lots (338 parking spots) along the parkways the schedule is inequitable, non-inclusive, discriminatory and does not respect the needs of the majority of the Gatineau Park users and Canadian citizens. This goes against the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility that every organization in Canada and The Canadian government is pushing to achieve in our society.
The schedule disproportionally gives favouritism to a small group of fit road cyclists who use only the parkway pavement and not the park itself, we see this as a manifestation of ableism, ageism and negligence to the needs of the majority of the users as indicated above. The Parkways are a means to an end which is access to 13 parking lots, trail heads, lookouts and picnic area and main that the park users use.
Therefore we ask to be consulted about any changes to the schedule as it was prior to 2019 and we request the restoration of the park schedule to the way it was in 2019.
