For the last several years, I've been trying to galvanize a nation wide demand "holding police accountable" for the murders being committed and I've used a petition to inform of the need for such action while making the demand. It has always been my position "not one thing" shall change regarding police murders, until they are punished for the crimes committed. We have marched and protested and they've continued to murder. We film and they themselves wear cameras which are also on some of their vehicles but the murders continue. Accountability for me means "punishment". It means you lose your job, you go to jail, you the suffer the penalty for murder just as those you were called to "serve and protect" would. We have witnessed men in compliance to orders by police, who were neither armed nor resisted and were murdered in cold-blood all the same. Not "one thing" that has been done, in the name of "holding them accountable" has ended police murders! What I call "accountability" and what it means for others are totally different things. Accountability for me means "punishment". It means you lose your job, you go to jail, you the suffer the penalty for murder just as those you were called to "serve and protect" would. It is the sole means by which to hold them "accountable". It is also the thing avoided by prosecutors across the nation who will claim insufficient evidence by which to charge them, while prosecuting "without evidence" those police accuse of a crime. This bias in favor of police which permits them to escape all punishment aided by city officials, law enforcement officials, prosecutors and police unions must be challenged on behalf of the people. But it is those people who must rise to the occasion and make such a demand. I am prepared to "go forth" with such a demand once in fact a demand has been made. What we have here is "a petition" asking for "signatures" which shall constitute a demand. Demands are heard loud and clear. And right now, they don't seem to hear you.
