Hi friends and family- I just realized it has been awhile since I shared an update to those without Facebook. I sincerely apologize. Two weeks ago, we were in Cincinnati for the DIPG symposium where researchers and doctors met to share their research and efforts to defeat DIPG. That was also when Kayne had his eye surgery. Since then, Kayne has been trying to swim and stretch to help his joints feel better from the steroid. He has gone to some graduation parties to meet friends and last Saturday, he took his eye patch off for the first time since the surgery. His eye looks really good. He still uses drops to make sure he keeps the cornea moist. The drops help, but it gives him blurry vision for about 30 minutes after using the drops. I tried them and I found out what he was talking about. It feels good after that though. My Mom and Gary came to visit us last Saturday and stayed until Thursday, the day we left to head to Kentucky. It was a good visit with them and they helped do some caulking around a big window. A big shout out to them. They also took the boys to dinner the last night they were here, a special time for the four of them to have some laughs without Kirsten and I in the way. We flew into the CVG airport on Thursday and we went immediately to Erpenbeck Elementary, so Kayne could meet the third grade students. If you don't know, they chose Kayne as their ambassador for the the lemonade sale. Erpenbeck third graders raised the most money over any other school during Alex's Lemonade Stand. Kayne spoke to them a few months ago and they were excited to see him again. We had lunch with Bill & Lila (Kirsten's Dad and Stepmom) and spent the night at their house. The big day was Friday. Kayne forgot his pants, but we found a pair at Macy's and for a great sale price. $19.99. The Governor of Kentucky, Matt Bevin spoke at the Capital and signed Proclamations for May 17 to be DIPG day in the state of Kentucky and the month of May as Brain Cancer Awareness Day. Kayne worked on a speech and he did a great job delivering it to the crowd. It was awesome to hear all the words come from him as a patient directly. We are really proud of him for his passion and his ability to speak in public. It was just two months ago, he gave his first big speech to a crowd of third graders. That is the latest news. Upcoming..... Well, we flew home yesterday and Kayne and Keagan attended a funeral for a friends grandfather. Today it is graduation party and a busy week. Kayne has the Best of Preps banquet Monday night. He speaks at a baccalaureate event Tuesday night. Wednesday is clinic day in Gainesville and Thursday is the senior awards banquet.
