Nathan’s Law: If You Pay Child Support, You Deserve the Right to See Your Child

The issue

Parents paying child support are directly impacted when they are denied the right to see their children. Many of these parents continue to meet their financial obligations but are left emotionally excluded from their child’s life. This situation harms not only the parent who misses out on precious time and milestones, but most importantly the child, who is deprived of a stable, loving relationship with both parents. Families are fractured, and children grow up feeling the absence of a parent who wants to be involved.

If nothing changes, children will continue to suffer from the loss of meaningful bonds with one of their parents, even when that parent is committed to supporting them financially and emotionally. Parents will remain powerless, burdened with the pain of being cut out of their child’s life despite fulfilling their responsibilities. If change is made, Nathan’s Law will create fairness and accountability, ensuring that paying parents have the opportunity to remain present, active, and supportive in their child’s life. This will strengthen families, benefit children’s wellbeing, and reduce ongoing conflict and emotional harm.

The longer this issue goes unaddressed, the more children grow up without consistent contact and connection with both parents. Every day that passes is a day of lost birthdays, school events, and simple moments that can never be regained. Now is the time to act to protect children’s right to have both parents involved and to support parents who are doing their part. By moving forward with Nathan’s Law, we can prevent more families from experiencing the same unfairness and create a stronger, more balanced system for the future.
