The Latest Update On The RIDEM - Procaccianti Leased Land In Galilee.
At the last Narragansett Town Council (NTC) Meeting, the NTC approved 2 motions related to creating a viable revitalization development plan. Motion 1 - Approved Pay for the an advertisement for an RFP and to pay for an architect to develop a mixed use development based on the RFP for the Galilee leased land that can be sent to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management that will have the following possible considerations such as a Boutique Hotel, a Maritime Museum that will be part of the South County Museum, an Education Maritime/Biome Center, a tourist informational center with offering of tours around Narragansett such as the Point Judith Lighthouse, Camp Cronin, Fishermen's Memorial, tours on the fishing vessels, tours of the fish processing plant, the Towers in Narragansett, and other sites of interest throughout Narragansett, a consolidated multi level parking garage that will take up a small footprint of the land and it can possibly serve as an emergency shelter and an observatory on the top floor, green space, park area, and possibly a convenient store.  Motion 2 - Approved Allow the Town Manager to approach the State of Rhode Island for the Town of Narragansett to take over the 5 acre area of land.   The Town will have a sound rationale to take over control of the land as the RIDEM has failed to regulate its lease by failing to monitor the condition of the land by allowing the Procaccianti Development Group create an eyesore by willfully neglecting the property entrusted to them.   The RIDEM also allowed the Procaccianti Group to breach the original terms of the lease without consequence.    The Procaccianti Developers failed to come up with a viable plan for Galilee when given multiple opportunities.   The Procaccianti Group noted the only thing that is viable in that area is primarily a massive parking lot, and the legal counsel noted the area is noisy and smelly.    The Procaccianti Group also said building in that area would not be cost effective as it is in a Flood Zone.    There are many seafront communities and villages throughout the United States that build in flood zones.    It is obvious the Procaccianti Developers want to get the biggest bang for their buck by creating primarily an unpaved parking lot that will cause the most harm to Galilee, and it will allow the Procaccianti Group to bring in revenue at the least cost to them.   With the RIDEM extending the Procaccianti Developers to a 6 month extension after the Procaccianti Group breached the previous conditions of the lease and by failing to have the Procaccianti Group put forth a viable plan for Galilee, and by allowing the Procaccianti Developers to generate the RFPs, it shows the Town of Narragansett that the RIDEM is not worthy of maintaining its control over the leased land.    The RIDEM is supposed to foster the development of land that will enhance and not hurt an area.    The RIDEM appropriated 1.8 Million for a Beautiful Fishing Pier in Warwick, RI, yet if it was not for the Town of Narragansett fighting in opposition to the Procaccianti massive parking lot on the 5 acre area of land, the RIDEM would have allowed the parking lot project to be developed regardless of how crippling the massive parking lot would have been to Galilee, its businesses, and to all those that visit Galilee.   Please send the below link for this petition to at least one friend or family member who has a love for Galilee.   Every signature is important.   Thank you all for your support.  Please note to your friends and family you do not have to make any monetary contribution to give your signature in support of the petition. https://chng.it/BtgJcV8S
