Petitioning Narendra Modi

Dear Prime Minister, release secret Netaji files. India is ready to handle the truth.

This is to urge you to honour a solemn promise the then BJP president Shri Rajnath Singh made on 23 January 2014 in Cuttack, Netaji's birthplace, that when the BJP “comes to power at the Centre, a fresh probe would be ordered to ascertain the causes and nature of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's death".

The need for the full disclosure of all classified files concerning Netaji, especially those held by our intelligence agencies, has become all the more urgent in view of the disturbing assertions made repeatedly by senior BJP leader and former Union minister Dr Subramanian Swamy that “former premier of the Soviet Union Joseph Stalin killed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose after taking consent from former PM Jawaharlal Nehru”.

In the name of truth, justice and transparency, on which you lay so much focus on, Indians the world over deserve to know the truth about the man who played a pivotal role in making India free.

If disclosure cannot be made under the Right to Information Act, we urge you to bring in a special legislation -- on the lines of JFK Records Act enacted in the United States in 1992. We are sure that the Congress party would assist you in doing so as they would very much want to clear the name of Pandit Nehru from all the allegations.

Declassification of Indian files must be followed by a head of the government level approach to the Russian Federation to clear the air. Government of India could draw a few lessons from the efforts mounted by the Swedish government in the Raoul Wallenberg case.

There has to be a full accounting of facts in national interest.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely
