Pench MP and Maharashtra are critical tiger habitat and serves as a corridor to sustain viable tiger population in the mid belt of India. It is also sensitive ecology with regards to the Pench river which is a life source for the tribals around.

Despite ban on tree felling by NGT order not to cut trees in prime habitat - http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-newdelhi/no-tree-felling-for-linear-projects-without-state-order-green-tribunal/article7009384.ece both the ministries are going ahead with the plan and has started mass felling of trees for the widening. Surprisingly this stretch has an alternative 4 lane route through Chindwara so whats the desperation?

How much do we stand to gain from this widening where in there are many NH in deplorable condition. 

The debate over this road has been going on for years and has not been resolved even though an alternate route through Chhindwara was recommended, he said.

Rithe said he was devastated to see “the massive tree felling, nearly 10,000 trees, at Chorbahuli village on the Mansar-Khawasa stretch,” when he was passing by on April 1, and took photos to alert the media and conservationists.

“We won’t be able to undo this destruction even if the honourable Supreme Court passes any order on the SLP. We, at National Board of Wildlife, had asked for bypasses to be constructed for protected areas and tiger reserves, so that we should not destroy our own established Tiger Projects.”

Why have an environment ministry if they support such environmental destructions? Why count tigers? Why do we need tiger reserves?

We all plea to stop this destruction which has no logical explanation.

Hope we can find a more amicable solution which will not hamper development or our existing natural resource which is priceless not to mention that this habitat has the Pench river which is a life source for the whole region - any disturbance will impact humans and animals too.
