It has come to parents of the Nampa School Districts attention that a number of pornographic books are in the districts schools. As a parent I am appalled at the content of these books. How can we trust our schools to be providing appropriate materials for our children to be learning from if they are allowing this pornographic material into their libraries.

These books need to be removed from the district's schools immediately. Some of these books talk in detail about murder, abortion, rape, insest, graphic details about a child sold and acts forced upon them, anal sex, molestation and suicide. With the losses our district has recently had, this is very concerning. If a child gets a hold of one of these books who has a history with even one of these subject's you will be subjecting them to their trauma all over again. Being in the foster parent community I have worked with children and received education on how damaging this can be. Have they considered that?

I do not feel like Laurie Maughan Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the librarians of our schools have put our children's best interests at heart. Making the excuse that they have educational value. If I make brownies and put just a little dog poop in them, does the chocolate over ride the poop and make it still good enough for you to eat? Furthermore from my understanding it is illegal in the state of Idaho to even have these books available to minors:

TITLE 18 CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS CHAPTER 15 CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS 18-1515.  DISSEMINATING MATERIAL HARMFUL TO MINORS — DEFINED — PENALTY. A person is guilty of disseminating material harmful to minors when: 1.  He knowingly gives or makes available to a minor or promotes or possesses with intent to promote to minors, or he knowingly sells or loans to a minor for monetary consideration: (b)  Any book, pamphlet, magazine, printed matter however reproduced, or sound recording which contains any matter enumerated in paragraph (a) hereof, or explicit and detailed verbal descriptions or narrative accounts of sexual excitement, sexual conduct or sado-masochistic abuse and which, taken as a whole, is harmful to minors; or (c)  Any other material harmful to minors.

All pornographic books need to be removed from the district, NOW. Not after a committee gathers. Now, so that not one more child be subject to this trauma. Here are the books we CURRENTLY know of:

Sign this petition, call your schools, send emails to board members, call the State Department of Education  (Because I doubt this is just in our district) and share when parents in other districts so that they will look into their districts too.
