We need to name the Montclair HS Field Hockey Field. Currently known as the Watchung School Field, I am advocating for a name change to honor the exceptional legacy of Coach Mary Pat Mercuro.

Coach Mercuro, a pillar of Montclair High School for over three decades, boasts a remarkable record of 400 victories, numerous state sectional titles, and was recently crowned NJ Coach of the Year for the 2024 season. Beyond her accolades, her profound influence on countless young women who have thrived under her guidance, shaping successful futures, is immeasurable.

Renaming the field where Coach Mercuro's triumphs and mentorship unfolded to the Mary Pat Mercuro Field seems only fitting. The resonance of this name change speaks volumes, reflecting her dedication and impact.

To materialize this tribute, avenues such as initiating a petition or presenting the proposal to the Board of Education may be necessary. Your support and involvement in this endeavor are invaluable.

In the spirit of transparency, I am a longstanding Montclair resident of over four decades and have a personal connection as Coach Mercuro's brother-in-law. Let's work together to honor a remarkable individual whose legacy deserves to be etched in the very fabric of our community. 

In researching this the field is also used for lacrosse.  Coach Gil Gibbs was the lacrosse coach at Montclair High from 1966-1978.  He is widely recognized for establishing Montclair High as a powerhouse in NJ high school lacrosse. He led Montclair to 4 NJSIAA championships  US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, NJ Coaches Hall of Fame.  

I suggest a co naming of the field.  Mercuro-Gibbs Field
