Hello there!

EMPIRE DAY is Sunday 17 September.

Empire Day. That's the holiday The Emperor Norton Trust inaugurated in 2015 to mark the anniversary of Joshua Norton's original Proclamation publicly declaring himself Emperor on 17 September 1859.

This coming Empire Day is the 164th anniversary of that signal declaration.

IT ALSO IS THE DATE of the official dedication and celebration of Emperor Norton Place as the City and County of San Francisco’s commemorative name for the 600 block of Commercial Street, between Montgomery and Kearny Streets.

Emperor Norton is documented to have lived in the Eureka Lodgings, at 624 Commercial, from sometime between summer 1864 and summer 1865 until his death in January 1880.

For the last few months, I've been joining with other Norton devotees in helping the City to plan a very special event.

The event will take place on Sunday the 17th — from 1 to 4 p.m.

The formal dedication is from 1 to 1:30 p.m., at the northwest corner of Montgomery and Commercial Streets — the site of the City's "Emperor Norton Place" street sign — with events and games to follow at the San Francisco Historical Society Museum, 608 Commercial, and at Empire Park.

It's free!

Complete details are via the links below.

Mark your calendars!
