Hello, there!
For the last few years, The Emperor Norton Trust has been noting that 2022 is the 150th anniversary of Emperor Norton's three newspaper Proclamations setting out the vision for the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in 1872 — and that this would be a perfect time for the state legislature to add "Emperor Norton Bridge" as an honorary name (if they hadn't done so already).
We're leaving no stone unturned in our effort to see that this gets done.
Last Friday night, NBC Bay Area aired a story about this that features clips from interviews with me and with Taryn Edwards, who is an Advisor to the Trust.
You can view the segment and read the corresponding article here.
The occasion for the story...
At the end of May, the Trust convened eight historians of San Francisco who signed a letter we sent to former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, urging the Mayor to endorse our honorary naming proposal — the hope being that Mayor Brown's support could help to overcome legislative resistance to the naming.
You can find a PDF link to the letter here.
Many thanks to Joe Rosato, Jr., of NBC for taking this up and producing a great story — and to Taryn for the great quotes!
