Hello, there — some bridge thinking...
Even as we at THE EMPEROR NORTON TRUST have built out a larger mission of research, education and advocacy for the Emperor, we have remained "on task" in carrying forward our early call for the California state legislature simply to add "Emperor Norton Bridge" as an honorary name for the San Francisco–Oakland Bridge — leaving in place all existing names and signage for the bridge.
In recent years, we have focused our bridge-naming efforts on those years that have symbolic resonance:
2018 — the 200th anniversary of the Emperor's birth
2019 — the 160th anniversary of Joshua Norton's public self-declaration in 1859

Next year, 2022, is the 150th anniversary of Emperor Norton's three Proclamations, in 1872, setting out the original vision for the bridge.
So, this fall, we plan to ramp up our advocacy for California state lawmakers to make the "Emperor Norton Bridge" official in 2022.

By way of a "soft launch" of that effort...
This coming Sunday is the 8th anniversary of our bridge-naming petition — launched on 1 August 2013.
The petition currently is at 6,277 signatures.
If only a little more than half of those 6,277 signatories each got just one new person to join them in signing, we'd clear 10,000!
That would make a big statement to decision makers!
Will you commit to bringing in just one new person to sign this petition by this weekend?
Five-digit support will significantly elevate our ability to get this effort taken seriously by those who have the power to make the "Emperor Norton Bridge" official.

Thanks so much!
