Hello, there!
As you know, Emperor Norton's 200th birthday was 4 February 2018.
In 2016, 2017 and 2018, The Emperor's Bridge Campaign lobbied state and local lawmakers in California and the Bay Area to use this milestone as a symbolic opportunity to pass legislation in 2018 that simply would add "Emperor Norton Bridge" as an honorary name for the state-owned San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge — leaving in place all existing names for the bridge and its parts ("spans," etc.).
This is a naming approach that the state has used with some 30 of its bridges, starting in the early 1960s. The legislative precedent is strong.

Alas, state lawmakers did not take up an "Emperor Norton Bridge" resolution before the August 2018 legislative deadline.
And, now, these lawmakers are focused on the midterm elections coming up in just under two weeks.
So, this is not the time to push.
That's OK. We can wait. But, not for long.

It's not the time to push. But, it is the time to prepare.
After the midterms, the Campaign will start letting state and local lawmakers know that we have adjusted our sights — and that...
2019 IS THE YEAR OF THE EMPEROR NORTON BRIDGE.
2019 is the 160th anniversary of Joshua Norton's original Proclamation declaring himself Emperor on 17 September 1859.

Here's how you can help!
We'd like to have the strongest possible hand when we renew our appeal to lawmakers.
Right now, the Change dot org petition for this effort stands at 5,927 signatures.
That's just 73 away from the next 1,000-marker of 6,000 signatures!
WILL YOU HELP US CLEAR 6,000?
If you support this idea and have not already signed, please do!
If you already have signed, thank you! A favor...
Please persuade at least one Emperor-saluting friend to join you in signing.
