New Info:

The bill to name the state office building after Rep. Melissa Hortman (HF 3455) will be heard in the Minnesota House State Government Finance and Policy Committee this Thursday, March 12th at 8:15 a.m. I will be testifying on behalf of the bill and sharing this petition. Unfortunately, the bill faces a challenging path in the legislature; partisanship threatens to derail efforts to honor Melissa. Legislators need to hear from the people about the need for this permanent recognition of Representative Hortman.

How you can help:

  • Email any or all the members of the committee before Thursday and urge them to support the bill. If you live in one of their districts, this is even more important!

  • Tell a friend to email committee members also!
  • Include the bill number (HF 3455) in your message subject line.
  • Share why this issue is important to you. What would naming the office building after Melissa mean to you and our state?
  • Emphasize that this should not be a partisan issue. The political violence that took place last summer affected all Minnesotans.
  • Melissa worked across the aisle for all Minnesotans. One of her last votes was an especially hard vote to avoid a government shutdown.
  • If you would also like to testify on behalf of the bill, email Amanda Rudolph (Amanda.Rudolph@house.mn.gov) by noon tomorrow, March 11th.

Why this is important:

Naming the state office building for Melissa would create a living tribute to the work that was so important to her to improve the quality of life for all Minnesotans. Legislators and the public would have a daily reminder of Melissa's efforts to make Minnesota a better place for everyone.  Melissa was the best of us.  Now, it's up to the rest of us.

Thank you again for your support and advocacy around this effort,

~Jodi Anderson-Wolhaupter
