Add Entertainment Venue to Westland Shopping Center

Add Entertainment Venue to Westland Shopping Center

The Issue

The suburban city of Westland, well situated between the City of Detroit and Ann Arbor is a prime location for an entertainment venue for events that would not reach such high demand as to fill the seats of the big city arenas. A small 5000 seat arena/entertainment venue and convention space (similar to Cobo hall) could fit well within the current available space previously used by Macy's and Sears.

Addition of an arena and open convention type space would allow for a variety of events not exclusive to entertainment opportunities, this would be perfect for the regions public schools who cannot even host their own high school graduations and formal events.

The Westland Shopping Center (aka Westland Mall) remains open despite other malls of its size closing in recent decades due to the decrease in in person retail shopping. Rising lease costs due to vacancies in the major anchor stores will ultimately price out the retail stores that remain. This could be the best shot at saving the community and providing something that is lacking in Western Wayne County area including Wayne, Westland, Livonia, Canton, Plymouth, Inkster, and Garden City.

Westland Mall has ample parking available in it's own lot and plenty of room for expansion if demand is there. Ample dining and retail stores within the mall and in the surrounding area will benefit from additional traffic.

This will require the support and attention of the owners of Westland Shopping Center, Westland officials including (incoming) Mayor Kevin Coleman, and any interested entertainment company. 313 Presents and Olympia Entertainment are added due to their unique experience in this area.
