Why this petition matters
Help Us Save 1886 Buffalo Cafe
1886 Buffalo Cafe is our small, successful family business located in the Eau Claire Market. The building was constructed in 1886 and was originally the Eau Claire Lumber Company. Today we pride ourselves in serving a hearty breakfast while celebrating Calgary’s history within these heritage walls. After 40 years of business in this historical site the City of Calgary has chosen not to renew our lease. We were given no opportunity for discussion
This news has been devastating to all of us at 1886 Buffalo Cafe. We honestly thought that the Covid-19 Pandemic would be our biggest challenge in 2020/2021. To date we have managed to weather this storm only to blindsided with this new challenge. On February 23, 2021 Mayor Nenshi tweeted ‘Our main streets are amazing hubs of small businesses. They bring vibrancy, character, and a sense of place’ - we at 1886 find this so disconcerting. How can a city council that promotes small business in one breath take it away in the next?
This is where you come in. We are asking for your help - your voice will help our voice be heard. Please sign our petition to help save our iconic cafe.
We will be fierce and tireless in our fight to stay in our location and to keep celebrating Calgary’s history while serving you the best breakfast in town. Thanking you in advance for you support.
