The Nagar Nigam Veterinary Office has a moral obligation to care for stray dogs and to inculcate a feeling of compassion towards them in the community and to start an Animal Birth Control Programme (ABC) to reduce the stray dog population.
Under the constitution of India Prevention Of Cruelty Act 1960 no stray animal whatever the cause can be relocated from their locality as it will never curb the stray dog population and the vacant places are quickly filled up by the neighbouring stray dogs which leads to new dogs in a locality and increases the human-animal conflict as the dogs are new to the area. Furthermore since dogs are very territorial, once moved to a new location, they generally do not survive long.
Even after repeated attempts to talk to the Veterinary Officer, Nagar Nigam Allahabad to stop forceful relocation of strays, there is an ever increasing reports of relocation attempts.
The Nagar Nigam should kindly stop indulging in this cruel and unconstitutional practice and to help local animal welfare organisations to start Animal Birth Control Programme in Allahabad
