This petition is for Gilmore Newkirk to be released . His civil rights were violated when Lake City Police Department decided to arrest him at his home hours before a peaceful protest in Lake City Florida . The arresting officer stated in the arrest report that he was scrolling through social media ( while on duty ?) and saw a post where Mr. Newkirk said rally at the courthouse today and said he would knock over a trash can .... this post was made in a humorous way as Newkirk stated in a post Sunday the day before his arrest stating he would not be rioting or protesting as he is on probation and major goal of his is NOT to go to prison but on behalf of him y’all go hang out , For this post he was charged with inciting a riot . They have violated his probation and that never would have happened without the bogus charge . The protest started at 4:30 and they LCPD went over an hour prior to this to Newkirks home and used 10 officers to arrest him . 10 officers for 1 black male is excessive force in itself . Please sign this petition so Newkirk and others just like him can receive justice and be freed of these charges violating the civil rights of our BLACK community . This Petition is also us taking a stand to re open cases similar to Mr. Newkirk’s . We hope from this petition that others making more harmful threats will be handled accordingly. LCPD has a reputation for being racist and unlawful we are fighting for all of our black brothers and sisters. The Chief in Lake City has caused many residents to not feel safe and that is NOT okay & as a community we do not support it. We are petitioning to have the chief resigned.
