Justice for Dennis Hardeman Jr

The Issue

His name is Dennis Hardeman Jr., and he is currently serving a 242-year prison sentence for a crime he did not commit — a crime that was impossible for him to commit.

Dennis was wrongfully convicted due to false accusations, prosecutorial misconduct, police misconduct, and the failure of his own defense attorney to properly defend him. To this day, he remains behind bars despite evidence that raises serious questions about his conviction.

After hearing about the accusations against him, Dennis voluntarily turned himself in the very next day for questioning, believing he would be able to prove his innocence. Instead, that moment became his last day of freedom.

Surveillance footage shows Dennis inside a 7-Eleven from 11:03 p.m. to 11:13 p.m., located 1.5 miles away from the crime scene. He was also not wearing the clothing that witnesses reported the suspect was wearing.

Most importantly, the first 911 call reporting the shots came in at 11:09:58 p.m. — while Dennis was clearly captured on video at the store. This timeline makes it physically impossible for him to have committed the crime.

Despite this critical information, the prosecution moved forward with the case rather than dismissing it. During the trial, Dennis’ defense attorney failed to call witnesses or present key evidence, including the 911 call log and recording that would have supported his alibi.

As a result, Dennis was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to 242 years in prison.

We share Dennis’ story in the hope that those who read it will see the injustice that occurred and help bring attention to his case so that the truth can finally be heard.
