Over the weekend, I was heartbroken to learn that another young person had died at the music festival from a drug overdose. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to this young man's family and friends. He was only 19 years old. His name was Callum.
Today, I am so sad for his family. And I am so angry and frustrated that our politicians still refuse to consider pill testing.
Callum was the third young person to die at a music festival in the last few months. How many more young lives have to be cut short? How many preventable deaths need to happen before politicians start listening to the experts who know pill testing works.
We know that pill testing helps young people make more informed decisions about what they choose to put in their bodies at music festivals. We know all of this.
"I can't imagine what you are going through" is something I have heard many times since my son Daniel passed away in 2012. Today, I can imagine what Callum's family are going through. I know this feeling, I live with it every day.
I don't want to see more mums and dads join this terrible club we find ourselves in. It is a club no parent ever, ever wants to join.
To the premiers and health ministers around the country: please, consider pill testing. Please.
Adriana.
