This week, the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and the NSW Police Commissioner announced harsher penalties for drug dealers who would be held responsible for any deaths they cause at music festivals. At the same time, they stood side by side and declared that pill testing’s ability to save lives was a “myth”.
At the same press conference, the NSW premier said this: “I value human life. I do not want to see any life taken away." If that's the case, why does the NSW premier keep ignoring our call for pill testing?
I’m hurt and angered by this. As you all know, the life of my son Daniel was taken away. His death might have been prevented by pill testing.
Gladys Berejiklian has also said that “anyone who advocates pill-testing is giving the green light to drugs.”
I advocate pill testing, and I am not giving drugs the green light. I am trying to stop anyone from going through what I have gone through these last six long years: living without my son, Daniel.
I would love to meet the NSW premier and ask her: “If that was her child, what would she want to have done?”
