In 2016 I was approached by Channel 7's Sunday Night program and we recorded an interview that goes to air tonight. This is a huge moment for our campaign. Can you help make it count?
Since my son Daniel died I have been interviewed countless times by for radio and TV. I have pleaded with anyone who would listen to introduce better ways to keep people like Daniel safe. People always have and will take drugs. A pill testing service will help make sure that the people who we love stay alive.
I believe some gains have been made in this campaign but in my opinion not enough. If I was a parent of young person growing up I would be very concerned and worried that this issue has not gone far enough.
When the Sunday Night program got in touch with me, I had great hope that this would be an opportunity for me to highlight not only Daniel’s story but how a overdose death affected and will affect my family and other families equally alike for generations. People don’t often think like that at all, they think “oh well one drug death poor mother” but it is bigger than that. My grand kids will never have first cousins, my daughter will never be an auntie and on it goes.
My hope is to reach the the parents, grandparents, guardians and families to make an informed decision about pill testing. I believe that pill testing will go a long way to making a safer, more responsive and caring society whereby drugs become the exception rather than the rule.
Tonight's show on Sunday Night goes to air at 7pm. This show gets a huge audience. Lots of people right across Australia will get exposed to this issue for the first time.
I encourage you all over the next few days to please discuss this topic at the water cooler, your offices, with your friends, anywhere you can.
Over on the Sunday Night Facebook page there will be all sorts of people getting into the conversation. In fact, it's already started. Can you make your voice heard there?
No parent should have to feel this empty, this anguish. But together and in the memory of those who have gone we can make a difference and my Daniels death will not have been in vain.
Thank you for your support,
Adriana
