The Issue

Every day, women and girls share photographs and videos of themselves on social media platforms to connect with friends, family, colleagues, and communities. Increasingly, these images are being misused by individuals who use artificial intelligence tools to create sexually explicit images and videos without the knowledge or consent of the women depicted.

A photograph uploaded to Facebook, Instagram, or any other platform is not an invitation for someone to digitally remove a woman’s clothing, alter her appearance, or generate pornographic content using her face or body. Yet AI technology is making this abuse faster, easier, and more widespread than ever before.

We call upon governments, technology companies, and AI developers to implement stronger safeguards that prevent users from creating non-consensual sexual content from real people’s images and videos. AI platforms should not allow prompts or commands that generate sexually explicit content involving identifiable individuals without their explicit consent.

We demand stronger legal protections, rapid reporting and takedown systems, meaningful penalties for offenders, and mandatory safety measures within AI products to prevent this form of digital exploitation.

Women’s images are not public property. Consent must remain a fundamental right, both offline and online.
