My Phone, My Choice: Abolish the Phone Ban in Schools

My Phone, My Choice: Abolish the Phone Ban in Schools
The Issue
"My Phone, My Choice!"
I am a concerned student facing the brunt of Governor Phil Murphy's call for a statewide ban of cellular devices in school which outright bans phone usage in public schools. This goal, stated with good intentions, is now having a negative impact on our learning experience. Our school is strictly modeling this suggestion, resulting in stringent rules that lack flexibility for modern times.
It is essential to understand the importance of technology and its inclusivity in education. One study connects a positive correlation between phone usage and learning (source: University of Nebraska-Lincoln). With controlled and responsible use, mobile phones can serve as an excellent learning tool by providing quick access to online resources, educational apps, and collaboration platforms.
While we agree and understand the intention behind this were to reduce distractions, completely prohibiting the use of these devices doesn't foster adaptability, which is a crucial skill for students in the 21st century. It also ignores the fact that smartphones can be crucial for emergencies, providing students with a quick way to contact parents or guardians if needed.
We call upon school administrators, the education board, and other relevant stakeholders to abolish this call for a ban. Understand and consider our situation - an emphasis on responsible use and digital citizenship skills will better prepare us for a world that is increasingly driven by technology. Please sign our petition and help us reconsider this prohibitive law.
Countless organizations support this, below are some resources to look into:

How Our Petition Works:
Every signature counts, but make it count even more by commenting your school district. We will add it to the list of districts with students involved, and student leadership can show this petition to their student leadership and/or administration.
