Carol Roe - Justice for Julieka

Hello, this is Shaun, the uncle of Ms Dhu again. A man was driving at almost 70 kilometres an hour when he hit Elijah Doughty. At that speed – he knew that he was putting Elijah in enormous risk. He didn’t care. The man who killed Elijah was given a three year sentence. Counting time served, he may be free by January. Once again, we see how little Aboriginal lives are valued in Australia. It makes us sick. It is beyond time things changed. When we remember the death of Elijah, we must also remember the police. The reason the man was there, chasing down a 14 year old boy, is because the police told him to go there to look for his stolen bike. Instead of doing their job, they made the irresponsible and inflammatory decision to tell him to go looking for his stolen property. The police basically told him to take care of it himself. Once again, there will be no justice. No police will be held accountable for their role in the death of Elijah. https://chuffed.org/project/copwatchnjp This is why we support Copwatch. We want change. We want to see Aboriginal communities with the skills and training to film police. We want to expose how police treat Aboriginal people, all across Australia. I have been deeply moved by the enormous support that this project has received across Australia. You have all been a part of raising amazing $47 000. We are so close to crossing the finish line to be able to reach all the communities that want this training. Now we have six days to raise the last $13 000. That’s 300 people giving 50 dollars each. We can do it – with your help. If you have money to spare, please support Copwatch. If you’re active on social media, share our fundraiser, and ask your friends and family to share and support Copwatch to: https://chuffed.org/project/copwatchnjp Thank you so much for all the support you’ve given us already. This is the start of change, and you are here, standing with us. Strength and solidarity, Shaun Harris
