Muslim Cemetery in Birmingham
Muslim Cemetery in Birmingham
The Issue
We, the undersigned Muslims of Birmingham, are requesting for a Muslim cemetery in Birmingham due to the lack of space available in existing cemeteries. You may be aware that currently, bereaved Muslim families are forced to bury their loved ones outside of Birmingham due to the lack of available space in the city's cemeteries. This is undoubtedly a great inconvenience in many ways. It causes hardship for families when visiting the graves of loved ones buried outside of Birmingham.
We would like to explore the possibility of increasing Muslim burial facilities in Birmingham including the possibility of establishing a Muslim burial site in the city. According to the 2021 census 29.9% if city's population were Muslim and over the last 10 years this number has increased. An increase from 21.8% since 2011. Strategic planning needs to take place to ensure their needs are being met including planning for when these people die.
Aiming for 100,000 signatures for it to be discussed with Birmingham City Council.
